Entry into Westwood IB DP and Transfers

There are many options and pathways for entry into WHSIB. We are an open enrollment program and encourage all students from a range of educational backgrounds to register for IB courses. Students interested in pursuing an IB Diploma must begin their IB pathway in 9th grade by registering for IB Prep Human Geography (HUGS) and AP US History or IB Prep US History in 10th grade. This set of courses develops the IB Philosophy and Approaches to Learning that prepare students for the Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grades.

Coming from a Westwood feeder middle school? Students coming from Grisham and Canyon Vista middle schools have many opportunities to learn about the IB program at Westwood. We host parent and student sessions during the school year to show a glimpse of student activity and the rich curriculum we offer. The IB Coordinator works closely with Westwood counselors to support our IB prep students as they navigate through IB Prep.

Introduced in 2025, RRISD now has open transfers between schools within the district. Students have the ability to request a transfer to Westwood or Mcneil High School if interested in the IB Program.
